Antigua, Guatemala is an old city mixed with modern vibes. There are fantastic coffee shops around every corner. And beautiful views of volcano surround the city.

Many people opt for the Pacaya Volcano tour, but I decided to just spend my 3 days exploring this charming place.
Hiking Pacaya, you also have the option of renting a horse to make the treck a bit easier. But keep in mind, I’ve heard from fellow travelers that have booked this tour during the rainy season and did not have the best time. Hiking in the rain and sleeping soaking wet is not ideal.
As an Asian American traveling, I always crave the taste of Asian food. And let me tell you…the food scene there is fantastic! I found an authentic & pretty popular Chinese restaurant called Restaurante Mulan. It was so good, I ate here twice. And you know a Chinese restaurant will be good if they have chili oil on the table.

Unfortunately, it was raining 2/3 days I was there. But when the sun came out, I took some time to grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the afternoon in the town square people-watching. If you get lucky you will get to experience the terrifying/thrilling sensation of a flock of pigeons flying towards you and land synchronously in trees and park benches

Overall, the town layout of Antigua reminded me very much of Cusco, Peru with a main town square in the heart of the city. If you’re thinking of visiting, here are my recommendations for things to do:
- Take a photo of the famous Arc de Santa Catalina
- Explore the Chocolate Museum
- Visit the Local Market
- Grab a coffee and enjoy it in the main park
- Eat at Restaurante Mulan
- Shop at Nim Pot (a large souvenir store)
Would love to visit Antigua one day and wander around its local market. Safe travels 😀
